The affected area is locally anesthesized for this powerful pain treatment. The physician places a cannula under X-ray control at the precise place of the intervertebral joint. Then he inserts the heat probe with a specific angle. The exact postion at the affected nerve is verified via computer. Now the aerea has to be anesthesized once more, before serveral small areas are obliterated by the heat probe.
The goal of this methode is to interrupt the conductivity of the affected nerves that no pain can be transmitted further. Since each vertebral joint has more than one nerve, serveral areas have to be treated.
